Day Three:
"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly".
~Richard Bach
This is a toast to looking at things differently, the hallmark of a creative and resilient mind.
Fear tends to proliferate quickly. So do bunnies.
There are legitimate reasons for fear, sadness, and anger in the world. Finding joy in the present moment is not turning away from the turmoil, but knowing that, despite the negation of hope we are encounter, there is a choice to be made as to what we pay attention to.
I'm choosing bunnies, at least for the next twenty days. I associate bunnies with coziness, cuteness, and chocolate. All good c-words. But art is my go-to when I need to disappear into endorphin fueled avoidance that actually results in a souvenir I can share. Writing helps too.
I decided to challenge myself to do Twenty Bunnies in Twenty Days as a both a distraction from and a refusal to be enveloped by the fear-mongers. Each bunny has a message I hope proliferates.
You can find a daily posting of bunnies on Facebook , Instagram, and Substack (subscribe for a daily Bunny in your Inbox) There will be a summary of bunnies every few days in this blog if you don't want the daily thing. My online presence has proliferated out of control.
Day Four:
I am my art.
After finishing this painting, I realized this bunny is me. I didn’t intend on painting me, it sometimes happens. I’ve been cats, birds, and once, a spaceship.
I was distractedly surfing the net to satisfy free-floating curiosities, ending up peeking at what Meghan Markle was up to, (I recently binged Suits so she was on my mind), then flipped back to finish up Bunny #4, and there I was … staring back at me with a rather distressed look and a rose.
This bunny sums up what I’ve been feeling lately. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.
Sometimes art says things better than words and when it does, it lends a spot of tea.
I knew what I had to do. Stop surfing the net, have a cup of tea, and paint another bunny; maybe one a little more relaxed. Stay tuned for Bunny #5 tomorrow.
P.S. Meghan Markle is doing just fine.
Be the art you want to see in the world.
Day 5
Watch for rabbit holes, they're everywhere. Go ask Alice.
