I say that because it's George Washington's birthday today and he said, “True friendship is a plant of slow grow, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.” ~George Washington
I think what George means is that in order for a friendship to be called a friendship, we have to endure the mistakes of inconsideration, forgetfulness, misunderstandings, delusions, and temporary psychoses that sometimes happen between friends. Some friends we need to let go of just because we have completed that relationship for one reason or another. Others we need to love and forgive and seek out again because we miss them... or simply "water" with a little attention.
Hey, let's all today, right now, spend 5 minutes making a little hand-made card - quickly... and send it in the mail tomorrow to a friend we've neglected or one we are simply glad to have. No strings attached (unless it's pretty string). It can be a quick collage, a scribbled doodle, gluing some ephemera that's been hanging around, using a card we stored and forget about, or get creative - mail a specially marked box top, a piece of cardboard with a picture of just the ears of a cat, a lid to an old coffee can (extra postage).. or if you're in need of a fun project while you watch the Oscars, try some mail art. go.
And that' s what I think George meant and it's his birthday.
I'm feeling rebellious about my own prompts on today's Awe-manac page, so I think I'll make some mail art to a neglected friend or maybe even someone I don't know who's left their mailing address on my newsletter list . Then I'll make up a new prompt like, play with the words: "Slow Grow Plants" because playing with words is a good way to stumble onto some new ideas.. Like this:
Slow Grow Plants- today's topic.. see above - no change in the words.
Snow Grow Plants - Plants that need snow in order to grow... and then, because the concept of plants needing an unusual sustenance is fun, I further associate plants that need other weird things in order to grow.. Plants that need torn tickets from Oscar nominated movies, favorite words, dried petals from other flowers, or how about side-ways glances? .... then imagine what art or poem or three or four line story might be inspired by one of these associations, this like:
Add two side-ways glances to your favorite exotic house plances..
Put them in the window for partly cloudly sun chances.
Harvest and eat flowers in between 5 break dances.
Slow Glow Plants - Plants that glow and blink in the dark slower than the blinking of lightening bug butts. In concert with lightening bugs, slow glow plants offer an interesting light-show.
Slow Grow Chances
Okay, now that's interesting. Slow Grow Chances. I don't know what that means... but I think George, (the birthday boy) would say it means that when you prepare little by little, over time your chances for joy, bliss, abundance, inner-peace and really shiny hair become much better.
Okay, I'm going to get materials ready for my mail-art and Oscar's night.
